Whether it’s helping students cope with non-academic crisis (i.e. offering food for their cupboards, emergency student loans, counseling services etc.), or helping our members become more involved in our community (i.e. volunteer opportunities, employment opportunities etc.), we strive to guide our members to exceed their own expectations by having a positive post-secondary experience and we work to set them up for success for the rest of their lives.

You have the power to make a difference today. Your money will go to one of the many programs we offer our students. You can let us know where you’d like to help out and we can direct your donations accordingly.

Tax receipts

Tax receipts can be made up for any donations received that are $20 and over. Please make sure to provide us with your full name and address, including your postal code when you make your donation.

Who are we?

The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is a charitable, non-profit organization that focuses on the non-academic needs of our members - the students of Mount Royal University.

The SAMRU is independent from Mount Royal University and is self-governed by an elected group of student leaders. All operations, programs and services are managed by a professional staff, whose work supports the governing board of the SAMRU.

Our mission is to enhance students’ lives in a meaningful way by delivering high quality services, leadership, advocacy and support. We serve students to help them succeed.

What does that mean?

Student services represent one of the primary functions of the Students’ Association. Student services cover the entire gamut of students’ non-academic work, from helping high risk, high needs students stay in school to delivering quality entertainment designed to make school more fun. The Students’ Association believes in a holistic approach to education which allows students to learn just as much outside of the classroom as inside it. The Students’ Association is committed to making a significant contribution to students’ holistic education through its co-curricular offerings.

Students work very hard for years to receive their credentials, and the Students’ Association exists to help them get through school. We provide social, volunteer and leadership opportunities to help round out a students’ academic experience. We find that students who are involved and connected to their peers tend to be more successful.

We also provide a number of key services and support to help students in need. It’s never been easy being a student, but students today are paying the highest tuition fees in history, borrowing large sums of money to help pay for that tuition, and many are being forced to juggle school and work. Some non-traditional students are older, have families of their own and strive to balance their family life with school and work. SAMRC fills in gaps and works to help students whenever they need it.

Some of our support services

Some of the things we offer include: emergency student loans, a free breakfast program (to keep those brains working), a free legal clinic, food bank hampers, fresh and cheap produce, as well as support and services for native students, for international students, for women, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students, and for students with disabilities. We have over 90 programs and services to help students get through school.
