Used Book Consignment

What is Book Consignment?

Simply put, we provide a service to students where you set the price, we sell your books and you get get back 75% of the listed price.

What does this mean for you? More money! Since you are the one that sets the price, you have the opportunity to make some major cash once your books sell, and with our new system, getting money back is faster than it ever was before.

And it’s so easy to do. Sign up online (anywhere – even from home), fill out the form, bring your books to the Copywrite and we will e-mail you once the books have sold and a cheque is ready for pick up. Please note that the name you use when you set up your profile will be the same name that prints on the cheque.

Books are held for one year. You are able to come back at any time within that year to change a price or pick up your book(s). After the year, if the books have not sold, they become property of the Copywrite.

From your online account you are able to check if your book has sold, if a cheque is ready, or if your book has expired. Please note that even if your book has sold, a cheque may not be ready. Please do not come to the Copywrite to pick one up until the status of your account has changed to include that a cheque has been issued.

Details of Consignment

  1. The seller receives 75% of the price listed for the book once it has sold.
  2. It is recommended to sell the book cheaper than the used price listed on the site.
  3. If a book is not listed on the booklist, we will most likely not be taking it for consignment at that particular time. One exception is novels as we will take them all.
  4. We do not take old editions of text books. We have limited space on our shelves which we reserved for the most current textbooks. We have the right to refuse a book if it is not the most current one being used.
  5. Cheques are to be picked up at the Copywrite by the cheque holder. Photo ID will be required.
  6. If you are unable to come pick it up your cheque yourself, you may have someone do so on your behalf as long as you send a notice via e-mail stating who that person will be in advance. Photo ID of that person will be required.
  7. Cheques can be mailed if you provide a self addressed and stamped envelope. The envelope can be dropped off at the Copywrite or mailed to us at:
    Copywrite
    RE: Book Consignment
    4825 Mt. Royal Gate
    Calgary, AB T3E 6K6

(Stamps and envelopes are both available at the Copywrite Centre for a minimal cost.)
  8. As e-mail is our main point of contact, please provide an e-mail address which will be valid for at least one (1) year from when you dropped off your books. We discourage using your mymru.ca e-mail address as they expire after you are no longer a student.
  9. Books are held on our shelves for up to one (1) year. If they have not sold after that time they become sole property of the Students’ Association (to be used in any way we require.)
  10. Book sales are final however exceptions can be made on a case by case basis. Please see store Manager for details.
  11. In certain cases we may get a large number of books that we cannot sell. We have the right to refuse a book based on our capacity. In most cases this is only temporary, so please check back as we may have room for more.
  12. We do not contact the seller when the book(s) expire. It is the seller’s responsibility to notify us if they would like their book(s) back.
  13. We will hold cheques for up to 6 months, during which you can come to the Copywrite at any time to pick it up. After that the cheque becomes stale dated and a fee may be charged to reprint.
  14. Lost cheques that need to be reprinted will result in a $10 fee. The same fee applies to ones that need to be reprinted due to user error (ie incorrect spelling of name).
  15. We will still accept textbooks for consignment even if the study guide and/or CD’s are not included.
  16. In certain cases we will not accept books for consignment due to copyright or media issues. Please contact the Copywrite if you have any questions. Course packs made by the University will definitely not be allowed for resale.
  17. In some cases books may get missed and later pulled off the shelf due because they cannot be resold. You will be contacted if this happens and have the option to pick the book back up or donate it to us.
  18. Cheques will be processed at least once a month, but usually more often. Our goal is to get your money back to you as soon as we can, however it may take some time during our busy months (ie September and January).
  19. The Copywrite will not be responsible for any damage to your books while in our possession.
  20. Only the person whose name is listed on the form can inquire about their account.
