SAMRU’s Sustainability Centre will host a conference March 11-14 encouraging MRU students to ‘Create a Better Now’.
The conference focuses on environmental sustainability, campus eco-footprint, sustainable communities and sustainable leadership. Students are encouraged to enhance their knowledge and skills through engaging workshops and group discussions with local sustainability gurus, passionate students, and experienced academics.
“The Create a Better Now is an educational forum where the campus community can learn, share and explore a holistic perspective of sustainability where environmental, cultural, economic and social issues and solutions intersect. ” explained Alana-Dawn Eirikson, the coordinator for SAMRU’s Sustainability Centre. “We also want to celebrate the campus sustainability the achievements we’ve already made and support community members who are advancing campus sustainability”. The workshops also look beyond the walls of Mount Royal University. “Individuals who attend the conference will see how they can make a difference when it comes to economic, social, and environmental sustainability, both on and off campus” explained Eirikson.
The conference is unique in that it is a response a response to the needs of a diverse and active student audience “Participants can attend all of the workshops and events that appeal to them – you can get involved as much or as little as you want and have time for” explained Shereen Samuels, the Director of Student Services who oversees the Sustainability Centre along with other student services for the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University.
