The Representation Executive Council (REC) is hard at work representing your interests to Mount Royal, all three levels of government, and beyond – but lots of that work happens outside of the public eye. We’re publishing monthly guest posts by your VP Academic, Cordelia Snowdon, to keep you informed and to give you a peek at what your student reps are working on behind the scenes.
MRU OER Days: Increasing Textbook Affordability and Access
From January 4th to 19th, we hosted MRU OER Days, an initiative to increase awareness of Open Educational Resources (OER) and improve textbook affordability on campus. Over 500 students, staff, and faculty visited our advocacy booths during the campaign, and we mailed 2,363 signed letters of support to six Members of Parliament to advocate for a grant to support the creation of OER. Thank you to everyone that came out to the events and to all the volunteers and collaborators that made the campaign possible!
For more information, check out our OER information page at samru.ca/oer.
SAMRU OER Award:
On January 15th, the SAMRU Student Governing Board approved a pilot of an Open Education Award for faculty and staff who champion OER by creating or using open resources, or by pursuing research in the areas of open education or open access. More information on the award and how to nominate will be available soon.
