How does a student access the Food & Hygiene Cupboard?

Students do not need to register before they access the Food & Hygiene Cupboard. We ask students to write down the date and their student ID number, so we can track our Food & Hygiene Cupboard usage.

If a student chooses to apply for a Calgary Food Bank hamper referral, then the student will need to bring government ID for each individual they are applying for.

How many times can a student use the Food & Hygiene Cupboard? How much can a student take per visit?

As many times as needed. We do not limit or deny students based on the number of visits per semester or year. Students may use the cupboard for themselves and their immediate family.

Our Food & Hygiene Cupboard is designed as a short-term solution for students. We encourage those seeking longer-term assistance to access the Calgary Food Bank through our referral process.

How do you cater to clients with dietary restrictions?

Students select their own food, so they are able to cater to their own dietary restrictions. We try to purchase a variety of non-perishables with common dietary restrictions in mind to mitigate these concerns.

Students who require halal or kosher food hamper options will be referred to the “Free Food in Calgary” document provided by Alberta Health Services.

Donations

Can I donate?

Of course! Donations are always welcome. Any non-perishable donations can be dropped off at the Peer Support Centre anytime during our core hours. While all food and toiletry donations are much appreciated, our most needed non-perishable items are:

  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Peanut butter
  • Juice
  • Cereal
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Shampoo

Monetary Donations

All donations are valued and every donation helps our mission to represent and serve students to help them succeed. Tax receipts can be issued for a minimum donation of $20 made by cash or cheque. For more information about donations, please visit our donations page.

Core Hours

Fall/Winter: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday
Spring/Summer: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday
