To comply with AUCC regulations, our governance structure will be moving towards a bi-cameral model. This means that Board of Governors will make resource related decisions and Academic Council will make academic related decisions. Until recently, the board approved all decisions, while Academic Council acted as a recommending body to the BOG.
The General Faculties Council is a University committee which makes decisions on academic activities like curriculum, policies or other issues. Examples of the types of decisions Academic Council would make to the Board are admission standards for programs, withdrawal date policies or the issues concerning Mount Royal eventually evolving into a university.
A separate sub-committee is charged with setting the agenda for Academic Council. Agenda Committee may also direct the standing committee or ad hoc committees to review an issue or develop a policy. The membership of Agenda Committee includes:
MRU President (ex-officio)
Chair, Academic Council
Vice-Chair, Academic Council
Chief Academic Officer (VP Academic, MRC)
1 student (Vice-President Student Academic Affairs of SAMRU)
1 faculty
Program & Policy Committee initiates, reviews and recommends policies and procedures to maintain and improve academic standards and advises council concerning the context and standards of academic programs. The membership of Program & Policy Committee includes:
