The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) holds an AGM of active members of SAMRU in each academic year, at which the membership receives the audit for the last fiscal year, appoints auditors for the current fiscal year, considers and votes on any proposed bylaw changes from the board, and receives reports from governance, representation, and operations departments.
Notice of the time and place and the general nature of the business to be transacted is posted at the SAMRU office and here on our website, thirty (30) days prior to the meeting. The Students’ Association may hold a Special General Meeting later in the year if there is additional business to deal with.
Any active member of SAMRU (i.e. credit students enrolled at MRU) in attendance can participate in and vote at the AGM.
This year, there will be a contest for clubs who bring in the most participants at the AGM ($150 first prize, $125 second prize, $100 third prize), a general prize draw for a $150 IKEA gift card, and free food for all participants. It’s an exciting opportunity for active members to get involved with the governance and operations of SAMRU!
Clubs, we need your help in encouraging students to come to the AGM! It’s a great way to make sure your club’s voice is heard by SAMRU’s governance, but that’s not all: the clubs that bring the most members to the AGM win cash prizes ($150 first prize, $125 second prize, $100 third prize)!
All you have to do is grab tickets from the Clubs Coordinator, hand them out before the meeting and make sure attendees fill out your club’s name in the space provided. Don’t forget to encourage everyone you invite to bring their campus IDs so that they can vote on the appointment of auditors and any proposed changes to our bylaws.
