SAMRU and the Sustainable MRU committee are hosting a Holiday Recycling event on December 3-5, 2013 where students, staff, and faculty can recycle and reuse their holiday ornaments, decorations, toys, and other related items.

“Tables will be set up in The Gallery, and donators will bring their items in and take any of the items that others have brought in” commented Shereen Samuels, Director of Student Services at SAMRU. The Gallery is on the second floor of Wyckham House, and the event will take place from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on all three days. Items that don’t find a new home for the holidays will be donated to Women In Need.

If you’re already digging out your holiday decorations, or just want to make some room for new items, keep the Holiday Recycle event in mind. If you want to bring a special touch of holiday joy to your room in residence or just want to be part of a more sustainable community by reusing and recycling, come on up to The Gallery and take part in this event on one or all three days!

Recycled holiday items are great for decorating your office, home, or cottage, as gift decorations or in “new to you” gift exchanges while minimizing waste.

Here are a few ideas of what you might want to recycle and what you might find at this event:

  • Indoor and outdoor decorations
  • Gift Wrap
  • Cards
  • Holiday Apparel
  • Accessories
  • Board Games
  • Puzzles
  • Books
  • Candy Dishes
  • Party Supplies
  • Craft Supplies
  • Picture Frames
  • CD’s
  • Movies
