Eligibility Criteria

Voting Eligibility

All Active members of the Students’ Association are able to vote in the election and to run for office on the Students’ Association Executive Committee and Students’ Council.

Eligibility to Run for Office

Essentially, any full-time credit student at Mount Royal University who has maintained a Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 and is a member in good standing of the Students’ Association is eligible to run for office for executive positions. For governor positions, students must be enrolled in at least one credit course, maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 and is a member in good standing of the SAMRU. Nominations for Students’ Council and for Executive positions for the 2012-13 academic year are open until Monday, February 13, 2012 at 4:30PM. It is suggested that anyone who is interested in running for Executive positions meet with the person current holding the position and the Executive Director of the Students’ Association.

For more information on Students’ Council and/or the Executive Committee, please refer to the most current SAMRU Bylaws. Bylaws are available online and at the SAMRU Reception area in Room Z222.

Online Voting

Once again, the Students’ Association is providing you with an advanced online poll to ensure you are are able to easily exercise your right to vote.

Important Information:

  • Please note that you will be asked to provide your name and student identification number when you access your online ballot. This information will be used only to verify your eligibility to vote.

  • Once you’ve cast your ballot, your name will be crossed off our voter master list.

  • Once your eligibility to vote has been confirmed, all references to your identity will be removed from the ballot.

  • The Chief Returning Officer (Shauna Hunter) supervises the vote independently of the Association. Only he or his designate(s) may verify your eligibility to vote. The confidentiality of your vote is assured by this process.

Please note that you may choose instead to vote in person by casting your ballot at the polling stations set up at the East and West Gate entrances to the University.
