On March 7th the Alberta government set out a budget that surprised individuals and groups working in post-secondary education. Instead of a modest increase in spending, the provincial government made severe cuts to post secondary budgets. This could significantly change who attends post-secondary education institutions in Alberta and career opportunities for those graduating.

“There is a lot of information going around and we want to make sure students have the correct facts about the situation.” commented SAMRU president, Kaylene McTavish. “It’s our job to advocate for students and they need to know how we’ve have been doing that and how we will continue to fight.”

The discussion will specifically:
• Provide context of the budget and summarize what SAMRU has done to advocate on the behalf of MRU students.
• Provide facts about the budget and how it may affect MRU.
• Ask students what their priorities are and what outcomes they would like to see.
• Moderate a discussion about the situation and future action.
