Launched at City Hall in the Fall of 2012, the Crowchild Classic pits the Mount Royal Cougars and the University of Calgary Dinos in regular season competition throughout the season in men’s and women’s hockey, soccer, and volleyball. The winner is determined yearly by the results of the head-to-head clashes between the two universities.

On Jan. 21, 2016, the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University packed a total of 12,859 fans into the Scotiabank Saddledome, breaking the U SPORTS hockey regular season attendance record of 8,882, set at the 2015 event. The game was also the best-attended game between two U SPORTS teams ever, surpassing the 1968 national championship game between Alberta and Loyola at the Montreal Forum.

The Crowchild Classic comes to a climax at the Men’s and Women’s Hockey games on January 25th at the Saddledome! Make sure to don your Cougar gears for a chance to win FREE TUITION! To find out more and buy tickets, head to

This is a great opportunity for SAMRU Clubs as well! Volunteer (or recruit volunteers) to sell 50/50 tickets at the game and in return, participating clubs will receive a portion of the 50/50 proceeds based on the number of volunteers they bring. Amazing right?!

If you’d like to be part of this fundraising opportunity with your club, contact Jon Heath-Smith or Margo Smith.
