The SAMRU Sustainability Centre (SC) aims to provide access to practical, sustainable alternatives for students; to share awareness, education and enthusiasm for change pertaining to environmental, social, and economic sustainability; and to help reduce our ecological footprint on campus.

If sustainability is important to you, consider volunteering for the centre, or come out to some of the events happening this month.

October 3
EcoFootprint Adventure Tour: Local Food for Global Change
10am – 11:30am
MRU Community Garden
Learn how to do seed saving with the centre and community garden team.
1pm – 3pm
Permaculture Gardening at The AREA with Kim – learn about local food and it’s impact locally and globally.
The EcoFootprint Adventure tour is free, and participants can sign up for one session or both by contacting Alana-Dawn at 403.440.8779 or Transportation will be provided to The AREA for all registered participants.

October 9
The Dark Side of Chocolate movie screening
The Gallery (2nd floor Wyckham House)
Come join the Sustainability Centre along with the Cultural Mosaic Centre (CMC) for a screening of the movie The Dark Side of Chocolate. A guest speaker will join the screening to facilitate a discussion on Fair Trade, and samples of fair trade chocolate will be provided for you to taste.

2nd Annual Campus Sustainability Week
Campus Sustainability Week (CSW) celebrates our achievements, provides education, and engages the MRU student body to help advance sustainability on campus and beyond. This year we’ll have workshops, group discussions, and a variety of activities. If you are a student and would like to be a part of the CSW organizing committee, please contact Alana-Dawn at the Sustainability Centre at or 403.440.8779.
