The Representation Executive Council (REC) is hard at work representing your interests to Mount Royal, all three levels of government, and beyond – but lots of that work happens outside of the public eye. We’re publishing monthly guest posts by your VP Academic, Cordelia Snowdon, to keep you informed and to give you a peek at what your student reps are working on behind the scenes.

MRU OER Days: Increasing Textbook Affordability and Access

In January, we will be leading MRU OER Days to increase awareness of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and textbook affordability. We will have info booths on student advocacy, an OER Fair, and Lightning Talks by faculty and community members. Keep an eye out for more program information.

#MRUstudentrights Event

On November 22, 2017, your VP Student Life, Madelaine McCracken, and I hosted an #MRUstudentrights info booth on Main Street to provide information about your rights as students and to find out what you have questions about. In our discussions with students, we found that some of the topics students were curious about were non-academic misconduct and the Final Exam Grading Policy.

Government of Alberta Tuition Announcement

On November 30, 2017, the Minister of Advanced Education visited MRU to announce a continuation of the tuition freeze for 2018-2019. The freeze on tuition will prevent students from facing fee increases, and the backfill funding provided by the Ministry will help prevent institutions from having to make budget cuts to make up costs. For more information, see the Council of Alberta University Students’ Press Release.
