Whether you’re brand new to Mount Royal, or a career student returning for your nth semester, you may be surprised at all the different non-academic services you can access here. And with campus coming alive again after the Christmas and New Year’s break, now is a great time to check out what your campus community has to offer.
If you’re a serious commitment-phobe, or you don’t have the time (or inclination) to volunteer, we definitely don’t blame you. Trust us, part of the reason we talk so much about volunteering is because we know it’s tough to get people to sign up for it. Frankly, we’d rather you be honest about it and spend your energy where you know it’s important.
All of this is to say: if you want to get involved on campus – with, say, a group of like-minded students or peers – we’re happy to say that’s there more options. Over 70-some options, in fact, ranging from academic to political to fitness to leisure. Yes, if you haven’t guessed it yet, we’re talking about clubs.
It’s no secret that the Students’ Association clubs are prolific. Our amazing student clubs organize huge social events, do incredibly important work like fundraising and campaign awareness, and connect students with each other – and faculty, and local businesses, and the greater community… the list goes on!
The best part? They’re all student initiatives; SAMRU’s just here to facilitate some of the specifics. Joining a club – or starting your own – can be a great way to get involved with some seriously cool events. Unless you want to tackle something bigger like the role of Club Executive, joining a club is low commitment but high reward, and you get to meet students who are interested in the same things you are.
If you’re interested in finding out more about Clubs – and all the other programs and services you can find at MRU – we encourage you to swing by the Clubs and Campus Expo coming up in January. This interactive expo features booths from both SAMRU and Mount Royal University and is a great chance to discover your campus community and to connect with like-minded students. And even if you don’t join a club, you can at least be guaranteed some swag!
