On January 17th, 2013 the SAMRU Pride Centre will be hosting a winter semester “meet and greet and mingle”. The event is open to any MRU student with an interest in the services that the Pride Center offers.
“The intent is to gather as many students, possible new volunteers and returning volunteers to discuss the direction of the centre for the year” stated Pride Centre Administrator Joshua Cadegan-Syms. The Pride Centre’s programming is volunteer-driven, so the discussions held on January 17th will influence what events, workshops, parties, movie days, potluck lunches and educational opportunities the centre will provide in 2013.
The “meet and greet and mingle” is also a fantastic social opportunity for LGBTTIQQ2AS students and their supporters. The center builds “community and a safe space for queer students to meet one another at MRU” added Cadegan-Syms. Not only is the centre an active and inclusive space, but the centre also hosts an active social media presence on Facebook, where many of the same conversations that happen in the centre often spill over or are started online amongst the volunteers and students who use the centre.
The Pride Centre winter meet and greet and mingle will take place on January 17th from 4:30-7:00pm and will be held in the Pride Centre in Z204 on the second floor of Wyckham House. Free snacks will be provided by SAMRU’s own restaurant, The Hub.
