SC_GardenParty_Oct13_2011_KW (51)_adjustedIn an effort to meet the needs of MRU students, the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University has created the Centre for Student Initiative, which will offer MRU students support resources for practicum projects, class projects, volunteer experiences, and an opportunity to discover passions not addressed by other service and volunteer centres in Wyckham House.

The Centre replaces the Sustainability Centre on the second floor of Wyckham House, but will continue to operate some of the programs students have come to rely on. Projects like the Community Garden started as student initiatives, so the transition of this program to the new centre is a natural fit. Along with the Community Garden, the new Centre for Student Initiative (CSI) will also offer Green Team programs, and an opportunity for students to participate in the annual CREATE a Better Now conference.

Centre Coordinator Alana-Dawn Eirikson notes that “The Centre will empower students to find their passion and potential in an atmosphere of mutual mentorship.” She went on to add that the centre will also encourage personal development and civic responsibility by encouraging students to explore issues locally, on campus, and in the wider community.
