The SOS Gym Buddy program is currently looking for volunteers of any fitness level to help the SAMRU Student Outreach & Safewalk (SOS) centre with the program. If you want to help your fellow MRU students access MRU’s amazing Recreational Services in a positive, friendly environment, all while getting valuable volunteer experience, consider volunteering!

“The Gym Buddy program is a social program where students create a safe and supportive culture in the recreation area through mutual goals, mentorship, and support,” explained Jon Heath-Smith, SOS Coordinator. He added that this is not a training program, so a variety of fitness levels are encouraged. “This is a social support network of volunteers, and clients working to achieve common health goals, while working to create a more accessible environment in the Recreation Centre”.

MRU students interested in volunteering to help organize, plan, and promote the Gym Buddy program should contact Jon by email, telephone, or in person.
