March 21st is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In the past, the Students’ Association has recognized the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with programming such as talking circles or film screenings. This year, in partnership with the Alberta Network of Immigrant Women and the Government of Canada, we are proud to present a full day conference: Understanding the Impact of Racism.
We believe that diversity makes our community stronger and more vibrant. We take pride in our inclusive programming built on promoting understanding and talking about difference. Yet we also recognize that there are many problematic race-related issues still very present in today’s society. So on March 21st, we’d like to invite you to join us in Ross Glen Hall for a free, one-day conference.
By providing a public forum where meaningful discussions about racism, bigotry, and intolerance can be held, we hope to promote mutual understanding and learning. To this end, we hope to create an environment where those problematic beliefs and attitudes can be examined and challenged, and ultimately encourage anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practices.
As limited space is available at this conference, we request that you register to secure your spot. Please RSVP here at EventBrite. This event is open to MRU students, faculty, staff, as well as the general public.
