Many of SAMRU’s valuable programs are supported by the fundraising efforts of our staff and volunteers. This December, on the 15th and 16th, SAMRU will be hosting our annual casino night, a fundraising event where proceeds go toward supporting the Students’ Association’s operation and expenses – expenses that include regular programming such as Free Breakfast and the Community Garden. For the casino night to be successful, we need volunteers like you!

Since a large amount of SAMRU’s operating budget comes from the casino fundraising event, the time and energy put in by volunteers at this event has a direct impact on our ability to offer programs and services. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to give back to your Students’ Association!

We currently have open spots for:

  • banker
  • cashier
  • count room supervisor
  • chip runner
  • count room staff

Shifts are 5-8 hours, and volunteers will be given on-the-job training, meals and snacks, and entertainment during slow periods. All these roles involve some downtime, so students are welcome to bring along their laptops, homework, or study notes. SAMRU will also arrange car pool transportation between the casino and Wyckham House for those who need it. Since shifts are first come, first serve, make sure to pick your shift early to get the best time that works with your schedule.

If you want make an impact on funding for services and programs with SAMRU, get some extra volunteer hours on your resume, and have a time with a great group of volunteers, e-mail Nick at
